DIMAPUR — Member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) of India, Sanjeev Sanyal and Director (EAC-PM), Devi Prasad Mishra are on a 5-day visit to Nagaland with a focus on catalysing economic growth and development in the region.

The visit, from October 27 to the 31st, ‘holds promise for bolstering key sectors and forging collaborations to uplift the state’s economic landscape’, said an update from the Home department on Friday.

Sanyal, a distinguished economist and urban theorist who has played a crucial role in shaping India’s economic policies as the advisor to the PM, will be engaging in a series of activities aimed at understanding the unique economic challenges and opportunities in Nagaland during the visit, it said.

These activities include extensive discussions with local entrepreneurs, government officials, business leaders, and community representatives during visits to economic centres, it said, adding that the official will also meet with entrepreneurs in Phek town, interact with members of the Nagaland Economic and Development Committee and PM-EAC, and engage with officials from various departments.

The interaction is aimed at obtaining firsthand insights into the local business environment and creating a platform for meaningful exchanges of ideas and strategies to enhance the tourism economy of the state, it said.

‘The visit also carries significant weight in the broader context of regional development and Nagaland, with its distinct cultural identity and economic potential, stands to benefit greatly from strategic interventions and collaborations. Sanyal’s presence underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and economic empowerment at the grassroots level,’ it added.

The official, whose expertise encompasses a wide range of fields, from urban development to financial markets, is also scheduled to visit Kisama Heritage Village, the main venue of Hornbill Festival which is celebrated annually from December 1 to the 10th.

His itinerary also include visiting significant locations like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s last residence in Chakhabama, the high-altitude village of Lozaphuhu, the INA Memorial Park construction site in Ruzazho village, a trek along Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s INA route, and a visit to the World War II Cemetery in Kohima.
