ECI eases Nagaland’s SIR process, directing BLOs to visit homes and collect documents from electors with unmapped details
DIMAPUR — Voters whose details remain unmapped or contain logical discrepancies during Nagaland’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will not ordinarily have to visit election offices for hearings, with booth level officers (BLOs) directed to visit their homes and collect the required documents.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the measures to facilitate electors during the SIR, which is currently in the claims and objections stage in Nagaland. The state’s draft electoral roll was published on September 20, with claims and objections being accepted until October 20.
Under the new arrangement, BLOs will visit the homes of persons who have received notices because their details are unmapped or have logical discrepancies and collect the necessary documents. The documents will then be uploaded on ECINET for consideration by the electoral registration officers (EROs) or assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs).
The ECI informed that such electors would not need to appear personally before the ERO or AERO. A hearing would be required only in exceptional cases, as decided by the EROs/AEROs, and should preferably be conducted online.
Where a hearing is considered necessary, an adult member of the family may also be authorised by the elector to attend on their behalf.

The commission has also directed district election officers to set up adequate help desks and hold special camps, as required, to assist people living in night shelters, labourers, poor and homeless persons and others who may need assistance during the SIR.
District-wise help desk contact numbers are available on the website of the chief electoral officer (CEO), Nagaland. The CEO’s website also provides links to the SIR 2026 draft roll, schedule, help desks and other electoral services.
The ECI added that in states and Union territories where the SIR has already been completed, a special drive would be conducted for the enrolment of left-out electors and young and first-time eligible electors under continuous updation of electoral rolls.
It also clarified that the Declaration Form attached to Form 6 would be used only during the SIR period. During the non-SIR period, forms prescribed under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, would continue to be used.
For Nagaland, the ECI’s SIR schedule provides for claims and objections from September 20 to October 20, followed by disposal of claims and objections up to November 18 and publication of the final electoral roll on November 22.
