THE Election Commission of India has ordered repoll at five polling stations under 39 Sanis (ST) A/C under Wokha district. This was informed by Returning Officer Temjen Toy today.
The polling stations include 39/10 Lakhuti–I; 39/11-Lakhuti-II; 39/13- Lakhuti-IV; 39/36-Lakhuti-VII; 39/37-Lakhuti–VIII. Polls in these polling stations on April 9 have been declared void by the Election Commission of India. Fresh polls will be held on May 15 from 7 am to 4 pm.
Meanwhile, the Naga People’s Front has reacted to the Election Commission’s decision.
In a letter to the Election Commission, the party said it wished to place on record its “resentment to the instructions for repoll”. It sees the order as reaction to mere allegations by the Congress that are unauthenticated by the election officials, and a violation of standard procedures and needs to be revoked. The letter stated that free and safe polls were conducted in the State as evident in the large turn -out of the electorate.
The NPF urged the Election Commission to view the matter with seriousness and ensure that the franchise exercised by the electorate in Nagaland is respected in the greater interest of the country.
