Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation says no to ULB election
Dimapur: The Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) has resolved not to allow conduct of Urban Local Body (ULB) election until and unless Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001, is repealed.
The ENPO in an emergency executive meeting held on March 26 in Dimapur viewed that the conduct of ULB election in the present form i.e., Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001, has a “serious negative impact” upon the Article 371(A) of the Indian Constitution.

“Furthermore, the people of Eastern Nagaland under the aegis of ENPO had on 26th August, 2022, resolved not to participate in any election process of the state and central until and unless its demand for Frontier Nagaland is considered,” stated ENPO in a press release.
The organisation went on to state that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had earlier assured that a solution “mutually agreed” will be reached and implemented after completion of the assembly election process in Nagaland.
Therefore, the ENPO in good faith had relaxed its August 26, 2022, resolution and participated in the recently held state assembly election, it said.
However, even after completion of election process in Nagaland, the agreement has not been signed till date, ENPO said.
“In this regard, as entrusted upon, the ENPO hereby resolved to adhere to its 26th August, 2022, resolution not to participate in any election process of the state and central until and unless a solution as mutually agreed is reached, and thus, further resolved not to participate in the ULBs election in the State as well,” it stated.
