Kohima, April 12 (EMN): Normal life may have come to a standstill and all religious gatherings restricted owing to the nationwide lockdown but that didn’t stop the residents of New Market colony in Kohima from celebrating Easter Sunday on April 12. This time, the people observed the occasion differently by praying for healing and hope from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Initiated by the New Market Youth Organisation (NMYO), the residents of the colony gathered on the terraces and balconies; doors and windows of their respective homes in the early morning of Easter Sunday and prayed together. They also exchanged Easter greetings with the neighbours from their homes.

Leading the people into prayer through a loud speaker, Toso Pusa thanked God for endowing blessings, good health and protection to the colony. The people beseeched God’s mercy to heal those infected by the Covid-19 and end the pandemic.

They implored God’s guidance to lead the leaders of Nagaland state in particular and the world in general with “knowledge and wisdom” as well invoked His blessings upon the frontline workers — the administration, healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, police and safai karamcharis — who are leading in the combat against the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Jesus is risen! He is risen indeed!” proclaimed the people of the colony during the unique

Easter Sunday service.

It may be mentioned that besides restriction of mass gatherings by the state government, Governor RN Ravi, in his Easter message on Saturday, had requested the people of the state to “celebrate this pious and joyous occasion at home with our family, let us do things little different this year by making it a one of a kind celebration with just family. There are plenty of ways to make it special”.

“On this occasion let us keep our people, our countrymen and humanity in our prayers. We are in no doubt that the spirit of Easter shall prevail. The Covid-19 shall be defeated!  Blessed Easter Sunday to all!” he added.
