DIMAPUR — The East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) has informed the general public within its jurisdiction that indiscriminate dumping of garbage, solid waste, sewage, pig waste, or any other waste materials into rivers, drains, and riverbanks is strictly prohibited.
In a press release, the council stated that improper disposal of waste and the direct discharge of sewer outlets into rivers and drainage systems have been causing serious environmental pollution and posing health hazards.
The council warned that any sewer line outlet found directly connected to rivers, streams, or drainage channels would invite strict action, including imposition of fines and legal proceedings under relevant rules and regulations.

Further, all piggery owners have been directed to install and maintain proper waste filtration and sedimentation systems before releasing wastewater.
The EDTC stated that disposal of pig waste into drains without proper filtration, treatment, or sedimentation processes would not be tolerated.
The council also instructed the public, shopkeepers, institutions, and all concerned to strictly comply with the directives.
It cautioned that defaulters violating the instructions would be penalised and necessary legal action would be initiated against them without further notice.
