Members of e-Circle, Friends of Nature and others during the awareness programme on e-waste management held at Kohima College on September 23.

Dimapur, Sep. 24 (EMN): An awareness programme on e-waste management was jointly organised by Friends of Nature and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, in collaboration with e- Circle, Dimapur, under the aegis of IQAC, Kohima College, Kohima (KCK), on September 23.

An update from the college informed that the resource person, Bendangwala Walling, co-founder of e-Circle, gave a briefing on how e-Circle handles electronic and electrical wastes. She explained the meaning of e-waste, the different kinds of e-wastes and how wastes are being handled. Walling also mentioned that most of the wastes are recycled illegally in India by the scrap dealers and other unauthorised parties.

The resource person also highlighted on the e-waste (management) amendment rules, 2016, and that they have been executing their works accordingly. She informed that e-Circle is the first authorised e-waste collection centre in Nagaland, adding so far they have collected and recycled more than 40,000 kg of e-waste and conducted more than 60 sensitisation programmes.

The e-Circle provides different services – recycle, refurbish, treatment, certification, data maintenance, on-site collection, and sensitisation programmes.

Further, Walling also highlighted on the importance of e-waste management and 4Rs of e-waste management, which are rethink, repair, reuse and recycle.

The assistant professor of English, Temjenrenla Ozukum, spoke on how the college has been actively participating in many activities like e-waste awareness drive, collections of e-waste and workshops etc. She said such practices and awareness have helped broaden one’s perspective to live a sustainable life.

A total of 66 students and four teachers participated in the programme.
