Dzüvürü declared second Smart Colony

Kohima, July 19 (EMN): Dzüvürü (Poterlane) Colony was officially declared as the second smart colony of Nagaland after Officer Hill Kohima. The declaration programme of the Geographic Information System (GIS) Mapping of Dzüvürü (Porterlane) Colony, Kohima, was held at Dzüvürü Colony Panchayat Hall, near South Point Market (Old Assam Oil Company) on Wednesday evening.
Nounesenuo Iralu, senior analyst of NGIS & RC Centre, Planning and Coordination Department, Kohima, speaking on behalf of NGIS & RS Centre, has appreciated the colony stating that a zero budget project like this coming into reality deserves much appreciation. She also said that it has become mandatory to used GIS application in all planning and development purposes and maintained that we cannot shy away from technology anymore.
According to Iralu, NGIS & RC is the first in the State that has been initiated by the government by involving participation of the community youth for the benefit of the citizen of Nagaland.

On app, she said it will enable the public to avail different facilities such as taxi at your door step, home deliveries or even the couriers can also deliver products at the doorstep with the help of the app.
The addressing system also aims to cover the entire Nagaland cities, blocks, circles and villages by using the latest technology in the domain of GIS, where retrieving locations for the residential and commercial building is possible in order to reach all citizens, residents, and businesses within the State, she said.
On data, she said 2652 different colony addresses have been mapped in the system where two colonies have successfully completed. Some of the colonies in Kohima that are working on it are Merhulietsa, Old Minister Hill, D Block, Duklane, Mission Compound, AG, PWD, Hospital colony.
After all the mapping is done, she said the centre will come up with a mobile app where we will tie up with the different business establishment, taxi services, courier service and emergency service.
She further requested the gathering to inform the other remaining colonies about Nagaland address geoportal system so that they can also be able to avail the facilities.
Under the project, the youth of Dzüvürü (Poterlane) Colony visited and mapped 915 households in the colony and created geocode map integrated with a digital address database.
A brief introduction and demonstration of GIS mapping of the colony was given by Er. Medoseho Sothu, convenor of Dzüvürü (Porterlane) Panchayat Level Sanitation Committee. Thepfurukuo Chaya, chairman of Dzüvürü (Poterlane) Panchayat, hoped that the vision which has been developed will enhance the quality of life and enable the colony to live as a proud citizen of the changing environment in the future. He mentioned that a “ray of hope has dawned and reality is at hand for them to participate in helping design our tomorrow’s city today.”
