Dzüdza landslide: Nagaland MP Jamir calls for swift restoration of highway

DIMAPUR — Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, visited the landslide site under Dzüdza village in Kohima district on Thursday.

He underscored the need for swift action to restore traffic and ensure the safety of the residents and commuters who rely on the critical roadway which is considered the lifeline of Nagaland’s capital.

According to an update, Jamir, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, the Joint Secretary (Road & Bridges), Executive Engineer (NH), Kohima, the Additional Superintendent of Police, Kohima and NHIDCL officials, met with the Dzüdza Village Council members led by its chairman who shared their concerns and apprised the MP on the efforts they have been making to manage the situation at the local level.

The MP also met with the Western Angami People’s Organisation leaders and welcomed their opinions and inputs while acknowledging their ongoing efforts in addressing the challenges. He further assured the villagers and local organisations that he would pressure the higher authorities to expedite the necessary repairs and ensure that the road is restored urgently, the update stated.

The contractors apprised Jamir that all necessary interventions are being made to ensure prompt repair and restoration of the affected area, it added.

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Pradesh Youth Congress (NPYC) team, under its working president, Keviphreo K Kuotsu, visited the stranded vehicles at the landslide site, and provided refreshments to travellers who were caught in the unfortunate situation.

It also urged the authorities to take prompt action to resolve the situation and ensure the safe passage of all travellers.
