The search for two persons who were drowned at Dzü-ü River on Monday afternoon continued for the second day but failed to find them due to strong water current.
Hundreds of volunteers from villages including Rüsoma, Chedema, Kijümetouma, Dihoma, Thizama and police personnel from Home Guards and 4th NAP Thizama searched for the bodies for the second day today. It was also informed that a good number of volunteers from the same villages were out even on Tuesday to search the bodies.
Late reports reaching here said that two persons were drowned when they were out fishing at Dzü-ü River, within the jurisdiction of Rüsoma village under Northern Angami region. They were accompanied by two other friends, but the other two friends narrowly escaped from being drowned.
The tragic incident reportedly happened between 2 to 3 pm on Monday near the bridge between Rüsoma and Kijümetouma. According to sources, four persons were out for fishing in the river, and all of a sudden a flashflood triggered by torrential downpour came gushing and swept away two of them.
Local sources said that the two survivors failed to inform the nearby villagers and went as far as Thizama village to inform the police personnel. “This could have been done as fishing and hunting and all other related activities have been banned by the Cheridiki villages, which include Rüsoma, Chedema, Kijümetouma and Dihoma,” a youth leader said.
The two drowned persons have been identified as Bendang Yinchumger and Tarkal Bahadur Lama. Bendang Yimchunger, (30 years), son of Seshma Yimchunger, was from Chomi village under Kiphire district. He had reportedly served in the 5th Assam Regiment till date.
He was here to spend his holidays. While Tarkal Bahadur Lama, (27 years), reportedly served as a cable operator in Kohima.
Sources from the youth volunteers informed that the search for the bodies will continue on Thursday.
