Dzieselatuo Keretsü is new ASA wrestling champion

Our correspondent Kohima, March 4: Dzieselatuo Keretsü of Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) overpowered another NASA wrestler Menuosetuo Yiese in the final to lift the Naga wrestling title of the Angami Sports Association (ASA) golden jubilee wrestling meet held at Kohima local ground today.2 The heavyweight wrestler Dzieselatuo came from behind to defeat his opponent Menuosetuo in lifting the coveted title. The 29 year-old wrestler Dzieselatuo, who is also the reigning champ of Hornbill Naga wrestling championship, walked home richer with Rs. 2,50,000, while the 1st runner-up Menuosetuo received Rs. 1,50,000. They both hail from Kohima village. Dzieselatuo is the son of Khriezetuo Yiese, while upcoming wrestler Menuosetuo is the son Lt. Khrielatuo Yiese. The third and fourth positions were bagged by Western Angami wrestlers Petekuolie Nipu of Sechü Zubza and Rovilhulie Pier of Khonoma village. They both received Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 80,000 respectively. On his way to the final, Dzieselatuo defeated WASA wrestler Petekuolie Nipu in the semifinal, while he trounced veteran NASA wrestler Zasituo Tsükrü in the quarters. The new ASA champ also defeated another veteran WASA wrestler Zasevikho Meyatsu of Mezoma in the pre-quarterfinal. As for Menuosetuo, he managed to pull down WASA wrestler Rovilhulie in the semi, another NASA wrestler Kezhavizo Thevo in the quarters, while he also defeated his elder brother Seyiekhrietuo Yiese in the pre-quarter final. The losing quarterfinalists, Seketoukho Nipu (Sechü Zubza - WASA), Kezhavizo Thevo (Rüsoma - NASA), Rokokhrielie Senostu (Jotsoma - WASA) and Zasituo Tsükrü (Dihoma - NASA), received Rs. 10,000 respectively. Apart from the two Yiese brothers, it may be mentioned that WASA wrestling champ Seketoukho Nipu was also beaten by his younger brother Petekuolie in the quarterfinal. Title contenders Keduovilie Zumu of NASA, Visevo Zashümo of SASA and Er Mhasilhousie Nagi of WASA, who won the previous ASA wrestling championship in 2016, were beaten in the round matches. 1A total of 56 wrestlers from the four Angami range took part in today’s championship which was witnessed by thousands of wrestling fans. In Naga wrestling, WASA bagged the group champion with 91 points, followed by NASA with 90 and half, CSA with 26 and SASA with 25 points. Earlier, Kiyanilie Peseyie, Minister Social Welfare graced the inaugural function of the Naga wrestling championship as the chief guest, while MLA Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire was the guest of honour for the valedictory function. MLA Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu also witnessed the wrestling matches. NASA is overall champions of ASA 50th meet 2017 Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA) emerged as the overall champions at the ASA golden jubilee sports meet which concluded today at Kohima local ground. NASA with a total of 50 medals including 19 Gold, 15 Silver and 16 Bronze were declared the overall champions. SASA, with a total of 48 medals, were placed second as they fell short of NASA with two Gold medals. SASA bagged 17 Gold, 14 Silver and 17 Bronze medals, followed by WASA with 3 Gold, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze and CSA with 2 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze. In men’s volleyball played late Friday night, Western Angami Sports Association (WASA) lifted the title following their victory against Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) in an exiting final match. The bronze match was won by NASA with their victory against Chakhroma Sports Association (CSA). The individual award for women in athletic events was bagged by Abeino Neihu of SASA. She won three gold medals and one silver. Abeino achieved gold in 100 mtr race, discuss throw, 400 mtr race and a silver medal in broad jump. As for men’s event, Medoneituo Sekhose of NASA bagged the individual award with two gold medals. He stood first in both 100 mtr race and 200 mtr race. With the completion of the Naga wrestling championship, the five-day ASA golden jubilee celebration also culminated this evening. The flag down ceremony was led by ASA Assistant Wrestling Secretary, Sitso Terhüja, followed by fireworks at Kohima local ground.
