DYRS announces result of virtual football skill competition

Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): Department of Youth Resources and Sports (DYRS) Nagaland on Sunday announced the result of Nagaland Virtual Football Skill Competition for both boys and girls category.

An update informed that in the girls’ category, 17-year-old Imlimerenla Jamir from Mokokchung was the winner while the second position was won by 22-year-old B Watijungla from Mokokchung followed by 17-year-old Neke Konyak from Mon securing the third position. In the boys’ category, 17-year-old Awang Konyak from Mon was the winner, followed by 18-year-old Thungcheva Lotha from Dimapur as runner up and 19-year-old Aching Anns from Mon as the second runner’s up.

The result of the competition was judged by a jury based on the techniques, execution, skills, accuracy, tricks and creativity, it stated.

The competition aimed to provide a platform for talented footballers and freestyle players to show their skills virtually and was meant for players, who have been missing the pitch actions for the past few months. It was initiated in celebration of India’s 75th Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) programme held from July 1 to August 14.

It said that the winners of both the categories received INR 10,000 each; INR 7,000, and INR 5000 for second and third positions respectively.

The youngest participant was a 6-year-old boy, Renchan Odyuo from Bhandari town of Wokha, who received a cash award of INR 1000 while the Thungcheva Lotha was adjudged as viewers’ choice award winner, and also received a cash amount of INR 1000, it read.

Akumla Chuba, Director of Youth Resources and Sports, said that 21 participants took part in the competition including five girls from different parts of Nagaland. She mentioned that the department had conducted physical tournaments and talent hunts to identify young talents, who can be given further training in the academy. The director also informed that the department was planning to continue such activities for the other disciplines in the near future, it added.
