Kohima DWSC reviews drinking water supply and sanitation schemes, highlights Jal Utsav activities.

DIMAPUR — A meeting of the District Water & Sanitation Committee (DWSC), Kohima, was held on Thursday at the DC’s conference hall, to review the implementation of drinking water supply and sanitation schemes in the district.
Speaking at the meeting, Executive Engineer, PHED Kohima Rural, Kedo Punyü said the committee monitors water supply and sanitation projects to ensure proper implementation of schemes at the grassroots level in coordination with line departments, a DIPR report stated.
He informed that under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, states have been directed to observe “Jal Utsav” from March 8 to the 22nd, marking International Women’s Day and World Water Day, to promote community participation and awareness on water conservation.

He also stated that PHED Kohima has been organising activities such as Jal Mahotsav and Jal Arpan Divas at the village level where the Jal Jeevan Mission has been implemented.
Punyü further said the ministry is currently implementing two flagship programmes — Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) — focusing on drinking water supply and sanitation.
He added that under the Kohima Rural Division, which covers Tseminyu and Kohima districts, motorised waste disposal vehicles have been sanctioned for three villages, including Chechama village in Kohima district, to support sanitation activities.
PHED Kohima district coordinator, Ashale highlighted activities being carried out under the nationwide Jal Utsav campaign.
She said the campaign focuses on promoting community participation, water conservation and sustainable water management through programmes such as Jal Arpan Divas with active public involvement.
Ashale informed that in Kohima district, 25 villages have qualified for Har Ghar Jal status, of which 12 villages have completed verification through the eGram Swaraj portal.
She also highlighted sanitation initiatives under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), including awareness programmes and the installation of sanitation facilities in government schools.
Water supply in health centres and government schools in Kohima was also discussed, where PHED officials assured that water connections would be provided wherever a nearby water source is available.
Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, B Henok Buchem, handed over a motorised waste disposal vehicle to the Chechama Village Council on the occasion.
The village council members expressed gratitude for selecting their village among many in Kohima and assured that the village would set an example in the proper utilisation of the vehicle.
ADC Kohima, Ruopfükuotuo Noudi chaired the programme.
