DIMAPUR — As many as 1354 dengue cases have been confirmed through Elisa test at District Hospital Dimapur, out of 4998 samples tested between July and October 10 this year.

Consultant of District Vector Borne Disease (DVBD), Dimapur, Peter Sangtam informed that out of the 1354 confirmed dengue cases, approximately 700 cases are from Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland, while the remaining cases originated from various other districts within Nagaland.

Sangtam informed that a total of 141 confirmed positive cases have been reported on Tuesday. However, majority of these tested samples were received in the month of September, as in that month substantial influx of positive samples via rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) were received from private hospitals

He also mentioned that due to the limitation on daily confirmatory testing capacity, there is currently a significant backlog of samples received in the month of September, which are yet to be tested.

He however informed that within the next one to two weeks, the testing process for these samples will be completed.

Sangtam urged the public to continue following precautions to reduce the risk of contracting or spreading dengue fever, as though some progress has been made in controlling dengue cases, the risk is not completely eliminated and the threat of dengue still exists.

He expressed hope that with winter season approaching, there will be reduction in dengue cases.
