Duncan women purchase tempo to eradicate garbage mess

Dimapur, June 18: As part of its ‘Clean Duncan Initiative’ the Duncan Women Union dedicated a garbage tempo at a simple ceremony in the premises of Duncan Bosti Community Council Hall today. Representatives from churches, Dimapur Municipal Council and residents of the colony were present. Speaking on the occasion, union secretary Sentila T Tanger said, the initiative needs public support and that churches need to make people aware of the importance of cleanliness as it is the biggest forum to reach the people. She also informed that the service fee of Rs. 30 for garbage collection from house to house will be increased to Rs. 50. She called upon colony members to corporate towards the payment as money would be used for paying salaries to the staffs and maintenance of the colony.Earlier, union chairperson Elizabeth Merry, said that it was with immense work and support from various individuals that the union could buy the vehicle and modify it to meet the sanitation needs. She informed that a total money spent for the vehicle and modification was Rs. 2,72,779 and the initiative would prove to be eye opener for other colonies too. The women leaders of the colony over the years have been actively involved towards a cleaner environment. Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo (DABA) Pastor, Rev. Tzudir dedicated the garbage tempo.
