Dimapur, June 2 (EMN): The Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (DSSU) has expressed disappointment with the perpetual slow internet service and bad network connectivity, while many reputed telecom service providers have failed to keep up to its reputation and expectations.

DSSU stated that a greater problem lies ahead as most of the educational institutions have begun their online classes in full swing as well as the Nagaland University UG examinations are round the corner. It added that the success of the said tasks would rest entirely upon those service providers operating in Nagaland.

DSSU pointed out that since the beginning of the lockdown, government and the department concerned have adopted various techniques/ options and started classes through community radio, internet, Whatsapp, classes via YouTube, various social media platforms etc. with an aim that each and every child/student in the state should be connected to education and regular classes. It, however, regretted that all those programmes were yet to achieve its desired response due to lack of proper network connectivity.

It mentioned that the situation is worst for those students from remote, non-urban areas where one had to trek for a few kilometres to get a proper signal so that they could attend classes or submit their assignments online.

“Students are the ones who are suffering the most as they have to travel 3-4 km at times during the lockdown to attend online classes or any other activities related with their academic career,” DSSU president L Kivipu Shohe and the general secretary N Mugha Aye claimed.

In the light of the above stated circumstances, DSSU reminded all those service providers to adopt extraordinary measures in extraordinary situations. It also appealed to all the service operators/companies to promptly install towers where it is needed as well as stabilise the network immediately as poor network connectivity is proving to be a big hassle for many students in these hard times.

DSSU further expected satisfying action on top priority at the earliest keeping in mind the interest and welfare of the students’ community at large.
