DIMAPUR — Describing drug abuse as a societal challenge, Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan has once again emphasised the need to “address the root causes” that steer the youth “down this destructive path.”
A press release informed that the governor made this remark during the launch of the Brahma Kumaris’ Nasha Mukt Bharat Awareness Campaign at the Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Monday.
“Drug abuse is not just a personal affliction; it is a societal challenge. It erodes the fabric of our communities, affecting families, children, and our economy. Young people, who represent the future of our nation, are particularly vulnerable to the lure of drugs. The need to protect them and provide opportunities for positive growth and development is paramount.
“Our primary objective with this campaign is to prevent the initiation of drug use through comprehensive education and community engagement. We must address the root causes that lead individuals, especially our youth, down this destructive path. By understanding these causes, we can offer better support and alternatives,” he said.
Ganesan pointed out that Nagaland has a rich cultural heritage and a resilient population. “Our youth have immense potential to contribute to the growth and development of the state and the nation.
“However, to realise this potential, we must equip them with the tools to resist the temptations of substance abuse. This includes creating environments that support healthy lifestyles, offering opportunities for skill development, and fostering a sense of purpose and belonging,” he reminded.
Stating that the dangers presented by drugs are immense, he called for a collective resolve and effort towards creating a future where every individual in Nagaland can live a life free from the shadows of addiction.

“Today, it is an honour to inaugurate the Brahma Kumaris’ Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Awareness Campaign here in Kohima. This campaign stands as a crucial initiative to combat a pressing issue that affects our society deeply—drug and substance abuse,” he said.
According to the governor, the campaign aims to foster awareness, provide education, and offer support to those affected by addiction.
“By embracing the principles of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, we can work together towards a healthier, more informed, and resilient society,” he added.
Also, Ganesan noted that the Brahma Kumaris have always stood for values like purity, peace, and self-empowerment.
“I congratulate the Brahma Kumaris for their dedication and initiative, and I urge all stakeholders—government agencies, civil society, and the general public—to collaborate in making this campaign a success. Together, we can achieve the vision of a Nasha Mukt Bharat,” he said.
