Driving Training and Research Centre inaugurated in Manipur

IMPHAL — The Institute of Driving Training and Research Centre (IDTRC), which is said to be first of its kind under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways scheme in Northeast, was inaugurated in Manipur on Friday.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh along ministers Khashim Vashum (Transport), Govindas Konthoujam (Works), Awangbou Newmai (Water Resources), L Susindro Meitei (PHE), H Dingo (Social welfare), MP Rajya Sabha Maharaj Sanajaoba, MLAs Th Shanti, S Kunjakeshore, besides Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi were present at the inaugural function.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren Singh said that human lives are very precious, while expressing hope that IDTRC will certainly help minimise the number of accidents in the state.

One of the major causes of accidents in the state is the lack of technical knowledge of driving for drivers, he said, and stressed on the need to follow proper traffic rules and regulations.

He said that the opening of the institute will also help in proper issuance of driving licenses. He said the Transport Department should also see that the IDTRC take a major role in authorisation of driving licenses.

Earlier, Biren Singh also attended groundbreaking ceremony of INR 1255 crore worth Integrated Sewerage System (ISS) for City of Imphal phase-II.

The sewerage system plans to enhance the quality of life of residents of Imphal through access to sustainable sanitation services and reduce pollution of rivers.

The ISS for City of Imphal Phase-II project will be expanded to more localities and will also include construction of pump houses and laying of pipelines, according to officials.

Imphal Sewerage project phase-I, one of the first sewerage treatment plants in Northeast which was inaugurated in 2020, has been providing sewerage facilities to many households.
