Dimapur, April 28 (EMN):Members of the Changlangshu Drivers Union in Mon district conducted a tree plantation drive along a road, on April 25 and the 26th in the Monyakshu area of Mon district.
The plantation drive was conducted as part of Changlangshu’s biodiversity management committee’s initiative to “restore the eco-balance” and to “benefit the weary travellers,” a press release from the union on Sunday stated.
According to the press release, the objective of the plantation drive was to ‘provide protection against road accidents’ and to ensure safety and even to ‘offer fruits to travellers.’
The union collected around four hundred saplings including that of jackfruit, mango, guava, litchi, pear, orange, lemon and some other trees of value, the updates stated.
The members also erected palings around the planted saplings, the union mentioned.
The union has urged travellers and citizens to take care of the plants to ‘enjoy the fruits when they mature.’
