DIMAPUR — A drinking water facility constructed by the Dimapur Government College Students’ Council (DGCSC) under its ‘InnoBuild Project’ was inaugurated by the administrator of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), W Manpai Phom, at the college on Wednesday.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Phom, who was the special guest, congratulated the Students’ Council for the development and expressed hope that the drinking water facility would serve the need of the students, especially in a humid place like Dimapur.

He was of the opinion that the facility would help save plastic pollution as in the absence of such water refilling hub, people tend to carry one time use water bottles which in return pollutes the surroundings. He commented that the drinking water facility would act as a stepping stone towards plastic-free Dimapur. He further announced that DMC is working to make Dimapur a plastic-free city in 90 days.

DGCSC general secretary, Rendemo C Tsanglao informed that ‘InnoBuild Project’ is derived from two words ‘innovation’ and ‘building.’ He stated that the infrastructural development signified students as agents of change.

Tsanglao stated that DGCSC aims to making DGC the best college not only in terms of academic but in terms of infrastructure. He added that it aims to alter the people’s outlook and perspective towards the government colleges.

Mentioning that no student is too young to do something bigger, he challenged to all colleges to do something remarkable for their college.

In a short speech, the project in-charge and managing director of Woodpecker, Landscaping and Interior Designing, Mhonjan Lotha, explained on the project and the designs.

Congratulating the Students’ Council, the college’s principal, Prof. Sanjay Sharma, has termed the project ‘historic.’ He acknowledged the idea behind the project and further expressed hope to see DGC prospering with the introduction of the new students-led ‘InnoBuild Project.’
