Dimapur, February 22
The Dhansiri River Flood Control Board (DRFCB), being aware of the pollution of air and water which is health hazardous to the mankind and the environment, has organised an awareness campaign-cum-social work on February 21 at the Nazareth High School, Purana Bazar, East Dimapur.
The social work also took place at NH-29 drainage, with the theme –“Let the drainage flow freely” under National Environment Awareness Campaign. The awareness campaign-cum-social work was supported by the Nazareth High School (NHS) teachers and students – which was said to be very successful and satisfactory.
“Dimapur is our only city, let us set up an exemplary neat and clean living by maintaining free flow of drains and keep the flood free society.”
The board had an interaction with the students, about the blockage of the drainage where a IX standard student of NHS Pukhashe Sumi son of Ghovishe had said that, “this blockage is due to throwing of plastic bags, bottles and so many other waste materials and the main cause is improper coverage of drains”.
DRFCB Chairman Hokheto Kiba said, the construction of drainage work taken up by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) at Purana Bazar (East Dimapur) area which was kept incomplete has caused blockage of drains and also caused severe flood lead scathe road in the locality, causing miserable incontinence for the plying of the vehicles on the National High Way – 29.
The DRFCB appealed to the BRO to make the construction work convenient to the general public before the rainy season.
