Dimapur, Dec. 17 (EMN): The District Rural Development Agency conducted a meeting in Longleng on Dec. 15 to discuss matter concerning the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).
The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Longleng district, Temsuwati (no surname given) addressed the meeting, which was with officials of the GPDP in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall, in Longleng district. Updates from the government bulletin DIPR informed about the meeting.

The officer urged departmental officials of the GPDP to effectively implement the projects and schemes for the benefit of the rural people. Calling the GPDP a ‘people’s plan campaign’ with the primary objective to uplift, the officer urged the officials to consult and coordinate with village councils when framing proposals.

Stating that every village has its priority, the ADC said every proposal must be designed according to the needs and desires of the people at the grass root and not as desired by the department.

Another official, Shashi Kant, gave the keynote address during which he said the programme was for the financial year 2019-2020. Emphasising that the aim of the GPDP was to strengthen the role of village councils, Kant maintained that special efforts must be made to ensure maximum participation from the vulnerable sections of the society.

The GDPD is an intensive, structured exercise for planning at the Gram Sabha level through convergence between the village institutions and departments of the state. It aims at developing the rural populations. Kant urged the line departments to submit their proposals at the earliest according to the instructions and guidelines stipulated for the GPDP.
The session concluded with discussion, and clarification to queries by officers and representatives of the line departments.
