Dr. T Ao Trophy: Longleng, Noklak, Shamator, Peren share points; Mokokcung, Zunheboto thrashed

Mokokchung, April 22 (EMN): Longleng District Football Association drew against Football Association Noklak District on day-four of the Dr. T Ao Inter-District Football Championship 2022 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on Friday.

Noklak striker Tangsoi should have converted a penalty in the 28th minute, when the referee awarded a penalty for a handball inside the area, but Longleng keeper Adok A Phom managed to tap out the ball.

For Longleng, substitute Kondang M Angto should have put the game to bed in injury time but shot the ball wide off the target following a poor clearance from the keeper Hatho.

Both teams were equally poised to win but were also culpable of missing their opportunities. A tightly contested match saw both the teams wasting their chances and ultimately sharing a point each.

Yellow cards were cautioned to Mongtei, Kondang M of Longleng and Putse of Noklak.

Shamator and Peren end in a 1-1 draw

Shamator Football District Association drew with Peren District Football Association 1-1. It was the difference between two headers in the match with both teams scoring from corner kicks.

Shamator stunned the opponent by scoring in the 3rd minute through C Shitomong. The goal gave the debutant team the edge and confidence, while Peren stumbled and panicked,  conceding the first goal within the introduction of the game.

The Peren team was not at their best and failed to break the deadlock.

In the second half, Thülungso Yimchunger almost scored the second goal in the 51st minute but hit the crossbar.

For Peren, Keyipuakleube the substitute, headed the equaliser in the 55th minute to make it 1-1.

Peren fought for the winning goal but was unable to penetrate as the match ended in a draw, making the Group C wide open for the quarterfinal qualification.

Humiliating defeat for home team Mokokchung

In the most awaited match of day-four, home team Mokokchung lost to debutant Tseminyu team 3-0.

The win puts Tseminyu team into the quarterfinal round of the tournament in Group D.

Mokokchung failed to perform as sloppy mishaps from the centre forwards failed to penetrate the mid set up by Nyithong Magh and Sinlo Kent as Tseminyu’s Resü-Semp-Kath-Kemp made impressive attacks at the back four of Mokokchung.

Vekhrüto Resü, in the 5th minute, comfortably found the net as Mokokchung defense failed to outwit his swift footwork. The game continued as Tseminyu’s Vekhruto and Kemp attempted multiple shots on the goal.

In the 14th minute of the game, Resü found the net again to make the Mokokchung team and crowd miserable.

Kemp, in the 30th minute, sealed the deal for the Tseminyu side as goalkeeper Mulong made a huge blunder while trying to clear the ball.

Temjenwapang and Temjenmeren of Mokokchung and Sinlo Kent were cautioned with yellow cards.

Kohima thrashes Zunheboto 5-0

Kohima District Football Association thrashed Zunheboto District Football Association by 5-0 in the last match of the day.

Thejasetuo Gwirie and Kevisanyu Peseyie scored two goals each, while Vilhoubeituo Yhome added one for Kohima team.

The win puts Kohima team into the quarterfinal round of the tournament with six points in Group D.

Kohima team were a much improved side compared to the first match that defeated the Mokokchung team. Their strikers were able to find the net without much pressure and their captain, Kekhrieletuo Tsira controlled the tempo of the match.

In the match, Kohima made a slow start as Zunheboto team went pressing ahead but did not get many opportunities. Kohima started their match scoring in the 22nd minute through Thejasetuo Gwirie, the goal brought the tempo to the team with Kevisanyu Peseyie adding the second goal six minutes later to make it 2-0 in the first half.

The second half saw Kohima scoring three more goals with Peseyie adding his second in 41st minute, Gwirie also scoring second goal in the 43rd minute and Vilhoubeituo Yhome completed the riot scoring in the 54th minute from a close range.
