Dr. SC Jamir addresses Kohima Ao Pensioner Union general meeting

DIMAPUR — Former Chief Minister of Nagaland Dr. SC Jamir addressed the fourth general meeting of the Kohima Aor Pensioner Telungjem (Kohima Ao Pensioner Union) held at the KABA Jubilee Memorial Centre on July 24.

Dr. Jamir, who was the guest speaker on the occasion, said that with the spread of Christianity in Ao-inhabited areas by the American Baptist Mission, the Aos became the torchbearers to spread the gospel throughout Nagaland, followed by the introduction of the education system in Ao-inhabited areas.

He also noted that after World War II, the Naga political scenario, which was in chaos, was united under the leadership of Dr. Imkongliba with the formation of the Naga People's Convention. Dr. Jamir stated that the Aos are the pioneers among the Nagas in the fields of education, politics, and spreading Christianity.

Highlighting Naga political issues, he stated that the integration of Nagaland with other states and the prevailing corruption in the state have tagged Nagaland as the worst state. He remarked that Nagaland suffers from tribalism, factionalism, and insurgency.

He called upon the Ao pensioners to clean up this corruption and bring about changes in administration, development, and a clean election system using the knowledge and wisdom they acquired throughout their service. He added that they can impart their knowledge and wisdom on different platforms, including churches and other social and political platforms.

Retired IAS officer ET Sunep, in his exhortation speech, said that pensioners are people who have gained a lot of knowledge over the years through experience and encounters. He asserted that as they age, it is important for them to have a virtuous character and lead a righteous way of life, impacting others, and urged them to be ambassadors of Christ to attain eternal life.
