Kohima, June 23 (EMN):
The Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association (NASSA) along with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Thursday decided to call off its nearly month-long agitation with immediate effect.

Consequent to the resignation tendered by Dr.  PJ Antony (Rtd. Officer) from the post of Principal Secretary, Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat (NLAS) on June 22, the NSSA and JAC held a sitting on Thursday and decided to cancel the protest.

NASSA began its agitation on June 3 objecting to the appointment of Dr. PJ Antony to the post of principal secretary in the NLAS, the appointment order of which was issued by the NLA Speaker on June 2.

NASSA submitted a representation dated April 21, 2022, to the assembly Speaker requesting him not to extend his service that expired on May 31, 2022, as the head of the administration of the NLA Secretariat. However, his service was extended and upgraded to Principal Secretary from Commissioner and Secretary of the Assembly Secretariat.

NASSA and JAC also extended appreciation to the chief minister for prioritising and ensuring a fast-track solution to the issue. It also thanked the parliamentary committee for their tireless efforts and wisdom in bringing an amicable solution to the issue.

They further appreciated the Naga Students’ Federation, Eastern Naga Students’ Federation, Confederation of All Nagaland State Services Employees’ Association, Nagaland Law Students’ Federation, Ex-Parliamentarians, district administration and police DEF for rendering their unflinching support throughout the phases of protest.
