Dr. Imkongliba Ao Memorial Volleyball Trophy begins
DIMAPUR — The 4th edition of Dr. Imkongliba Ao Memorial Volleyball Trophy commenced at DDSC Stadium, Dimapur, on Wednesday with Advisor of Youth Resource and Sports, S Keoshu Yimchunger as the special guest.
The three-day tournament is organised by Japukong Youth Organisation and supported by Nagaland Tourism.
As many as eight teams, including MH 10 (A), MH 10 , Khiruphema, CVA (A), CVA , Public Ground Colony, Itovi Memorial Team, and Sumi United are vying for the trophy.
The prize money for the champions of the tournament is INR 1, 50,000, while 1st runners-up will receive INR 80,000, and 2nd runners-up will receive INR 40,000. For individual award winners like player of the tournament, best spiker and best setter will receive INR 10,000 each.
Speaking during the inaugural programme, Yimchunger said that sports industry will evolve in the coming years and that it is heading for a big change.
He asserted that good attitude and respect towards other fellow sportspersons is required to reach the top level.
In order to earn respect, one needs to be humble, sincere, dedicated and have a self discipline, he said, adding that sports is all about discipline, competing with honour and accepting defeat gracefully.
Unless one learns to accept defeat, one cannot be a good sportsperson, he added.
He maintained that the department of Youth Resources and Sports, under leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, is giving its best to promote sports in the state.
‘Remember that your government is there to promote and support the best; we are there for those who are really dedicated and committed,’ he added.
