Dr. Chumben Murry congratulates his opponent after conceding defeat; thanks his supporters
DIMAPUR — A day after conceding defeat to his Congress opponent in the recently concluded general elections to the Lok Sabha, Dr. Chumben Murry of the ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) congratulated S Supongmeren Jamir for the victory.
“His win without a single MLA to support him is an accomplishment and a big victory. I am sure as a seasoned politician; he will represent our needs well. I wish him all the very best,” read an acknowledgement released by Murry.
He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to a horde of people, including the well-wishers for their support, the electorate who voted for him and the chief minister of Nagaland for ‘having confidence on him that could possibly help him represent the people of the state in the Parliament and putting him up as the consensus candidate of the PDA’.
“I thank all the legislators of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for their support. I also thank the Ex. Legislators and Former Nagaland Assembly Election candidates who have supported me. I would also like to thank all the rank and file of PDA alliance and Coalition Parties (NDPP, BJP, NCP, NPP, NPF, LJP(RV), RPI(A), JD) led by their respective state presidents and the high commands,” read the acknowledgement.
Supongmeren expresses gratitude
Meanwhile, the winning candidate, Supongmeren Jamir, who assured to work for public welfare after the thumping victory on Tuesday, once again reiterated his commitment to serve people.
“I accept the verdict of the People of Nagaland with utmost gratitude and humility, and will ceaselessly endeavour to do justice to the overwhelming mandate given in favour of me and the Congress party,” he said in a press statement on Wednesday.
“I reaffirm my commitment to represent your interests and aspirations to the best of my abilities, from within and outside the hallowed halls of our Parliament,” he added.
Jamir once again thanked his supporters and well-wishers, including the rank and file of the Congress party in Nagaland and beyond, the campaign committee, volunteers and individuals for their unwavering support and sacrifices throughout the campaign, describing the victory as theirs.
He went on to thank the Rising People’s Party for its “exemplary camaraderie and rock solid partnership”; also the civil society, church organisations, media fraternity and all poll-related government officials for their invaluable contributions.
“I would also like to thank my fellow competing candidates for their spirited campaigns and look forward to their constructive and collaborative interventions as I set out to discharge my responsibilities in the service of the people of Nagaland and the Nation in general,” he wrote.
