Dimapur, June 16: The new office building of the District Programme Office, Peren was inaugurated today by the Minister for Social Welfare & Parliamentary Affairs, Kiyanelie Peseyie.
Addressing the function, the Minister said that since the department’s inception in 1968, it has gradually grown from strength to strength from a humble beginning with one ICDS Project during 1975-76. Today we had 60 operationalized ICDS Projects operating all over Nagaland, especially to women and children through a network of 3455 Anganwadi centres. He stated that the rapid expansion of the department bring forth bigger responsibility to every officer for rendering better and more meaningful service to the people.Secretary Social Welfare Department, Dellirose M. Sakhrie urged the people to extend co-operation for the successful implementation of the programme. Deputy Commissioner Peren, Zarenthung Ezung in his short speech lauded the efforts of the department for completing the office. He also mentioned that the district administration is ready to allot land to Social Welfare department inorder to build hostels and other departmental related infrastructure.
Director Social Welfare, T. Merangtsungba Aier gave the introductory speech. Pastor Union Baptist Church Peren, Yangsai invoked God’s blessing while special number was presented by the Anganwadi children, Jalukie and Kitwapungle. Vote of thanks was proposed by DPO Nokcharenla Longchar.
The programme was attended by the government officials, public leaders and Anganwadi workers from Peren District.
