DPDB meetings held at Peren, Noklak, Wokha

DIMAPUR – The monthly Peren District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting was held on Tuesday at the DC’s conference hall at Peren. During the meeting, the board agreed to approve the LADP schemes, which included a common pool and iconic projects, for the 6 Tening A/C and 7 Peren A/C. The meeting was chaired by Dy. CM and chairman of DPDB Peren, T.R. Zeliang.

During the meeting, the board made several recommendations, including the proposal for the establishment of a fire station at Peren Town, the opening of Genesis School at Jalukie, the upgradation of Heningkunglwa Police Outpost to a police station, and the renovation of the ADC headquarters at Peren Town.

On the agenda of the reconstitution of the boundary committee for the new district hq., the board agreed to reconstitute a committee with DC Peren as the chairman.

The meeting also discussed the agenda regarding the upgradation of the Government High School, Heningkunglwa, to higher secondary. The board decided to assign the district education officer, Peren, the task of preparing a detailed report on this matter, which will be submitted at the next meeting.

On this occasion, the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) provided a detailed presentation on the activities of their respective departments through PowerPoint presentations.

For the next meeting, the tourism department and district child protection officer have been assigned the task of giving their departmental presentations. Furthermore, the DC informed the members that the Governor of Nagaland will be visiting Peren on July 21 and has asked all heads of offices to make themselves available for the same.

In his concluding remarks, Zeliang advised the district planning officer to maintain proper attendance records during DPDB meetings. He also emphasised the importance of regular attendance by members, as important issues concerning the district are discussed during these monthly meetings.

Later, in a separate programme held at the conference hall and organised by DPDB Peren, the Peren District Badminton Association team, which emerged as the champion in the recently concluded Li-Ning 45th Inter District and State Open Badminton Championship 2023 held in Kohima, was felicitated.

Zeliang delivered words of appreciation during the event.

Noklak: Under the chairmanship of MLA and chairman of DPDB Noklak, P Longon, the Noklak DPDB meeting was held on Tuesday at the DC conference hall, Noklak. During the meeting, several important issues were discussed, and decisions were made related to the development of the district.

In his address, Longon, highlighting that the economy of Noklak district primarily revolves around agri-allied activities, emphasised the district’s favourable climatic conditions for cultivating millet and stressed the importance of adopting modern farming methods.

He urged all stakeholders and departments to take the initiative and promote millet cultivation in the district. He reminded the members and concerned departments that 2023 has been declared the “International Year of Millets” and requested that they create awareness about the health and nutritional benefits of millets.

During the meeting, the board recognised the necessity of skill development facilities in the district, particularly with a focus on empowering the youth through skill training. The proposal regarding this matter was unanimously approved and recommended to the concerned department.

Also, the construction of the superintendent of the police’s office at Noklak and the establishment of a bus terminal and bus stations in the area received the board’s approval and recommendation for forwarding to the concerned authorities.

The board addressed the issue of staff shortages at the District Hospital, Noklak, and the Chief Medical Office, Noklak. To address this, the members approved the creation of various posts under the chief medical officer and medical superintendent and recommended them to the concerned department.

The board also discussed the absence of medical officers at the primary health centres at Panso and Pangsha, which has caused difficulties for the public. They emphasised the need for the concerned department to take necessary actions.

The meeting also witnessed approvals and recommendations for various development initiatives. These included the construction of a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Thonoknyu, the establishment of the Frontier Christian School at Noklak village as proposed by the Baptist Church Thang, and the recognition of Lumoking village under Panso Headquarters.

Regarding veterinary services in the district, the board informed the concerned department about the need to create a chief veterinary officer position at Noklak and establish a veterinary sub-health centre at Chipur Village under Thonoknyu. The board also approved and recommended the LADP for 2023–24 for the 56th AC Noklak and the 57th AC Thonoknyu, paving the way for essential development projects.

To streamline the district’s administrative processes, the board tentatively fixed Wednesday on the third week of every month as the monthly DPDB meeting day for Noklak.

Wokha: The Wokha DPDB granted approval for the LADP scheme for 2023–24 during its monthly meeting held on Tuesday at DC conference hall, Wokha. The meeting was presided over by DC Wokha & vice chairman DPDB Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan, and advisor for agriculture & chairman DPDB Wokha Mhathung Yanthan.

In his opening remarks, Yanthan expressed his gratitude to the board members for their support in approving the LADP scheme.

On the occasion, the board decided to rename the Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha, to Mhondamo Kithan Memorial Government Higher Secondary School, in memory of Lt. Mhondamo Kithan, the first graduate from the Lotha tribe, former interim body member, and Nagaland’s first minister of education.

The meeting witnessed the approval and forwarding of the proposal to open a new private school, Next Gen School, at Bhandari Town, Wokha. Furthermore, a committee was formed to commemorate the golden jubilee of the district’s creation. The committee is composed of the DC Wokha as the convenor, representatives from the Lotha Officers Association, various civil societies, and district stakeholders as members.

The board also reviewed the development plans for four aspirational villages and recommended the registration of alumni associations for Mt. Tiyi College and Bailey Baptist College, Wokha.

Later, Yanthan, along with MLAs Mhonbemo Humtsoe and Achumbemo Kikon, and DC Wokha visited and inspected the office of the principal of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Wokha. The chairman assured that the board would bring up the challenges faced by the institution to the state government and urged the departments to strive towards producing skilled students who can make meaningful contributions to society.
