TAMENGLONG, FEBRUARY 17

[dropcap]S[/dropcap]peculations are rife that whether a new militant outfit in Tamenglong district has been floated. A man had received a demand letter of Rs 50,000 from an outfit called New Zeliangrong Terrorists or NZT, it has been speculated. The group had succeeded in extorting money from the man on January 21 from Noney in Tamenglong district.
However, the Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) alleged that the demand letter was served by one ‘lance corporal’ of NSCN-IM identified as Swankaba Nka Inpuial alias Nanao Kamei, son of Kaguigongpou of Nungtek village, Tamenglong district. Swankaba is presently residing near Zilakpou Memorial School (ZMS) Tamenglong headquarters, the ZUF said. Two women went to Noney on January 21 with the demand letter of New Zeliangrong Terrorists (NZT) and handed over the money to one non-local head mason in a rice hotel. The head mason identified as one Gopal handed over the amount to the two women on the same day. The women in turn gave the money to Swankaba Nka Inpuilal, ZUF information secretary A Dangmei said in a statement today.
The two women have been identified as Miss Lumgongliu Pamei d/o Kadidunang Pamei and Miss Martha Kamei d/o Ramkathing Kamei of Kaikao village,Tamenglong district, according to the ZUF.
On being questioned on February 10, the two women had confessed to the ZUF in the presence of Kadidunang Pamei who is the father of Lumgongliu, Lungtham Pamei, a church deacon, Samuel Pamei, the village authority secretary of Kaikao, and Ribuiyang Pamei, ex-village authority chairman, A Dangmei claimed. Both the women had confessed that Swankaba had threatened them to carry out the mission or else their family members would be killed.
According to A Dangmei, the ZUF investigation team was headed by “Region Tanki Officer” (RTO) James Kamei.
Meanwhile, A Dangmei said the ZUF released the two women since they had confessed their wrong-doing through the four church and village leaders after having made a pledge by the two women that they would not repeat such act in future. The ZUF then strongly condemned the act of Swankaba.
