Dimapur, Mar. 1 (EMN): Department of school education (DoSE) has invited nominations from school children for participation at the ‘Young scientist programme.’
Indian space research organisation (ISRO) has launched a special programme for school children called “Young scientist programme” in tune with the Government of India’s vision “Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan.”
The programme is primarily aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications to the younger ones with the intent of arousing their interest in the emerging areas of space activities. The programme would be of around two weeks duration (April – May 2019) which would include invited talks, experience sharing by the eminent scientists, access to R&D labs, exclusive sessions for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.
A press release issued by the director of school education, Wonthungo Tsopoe, stated that selected students would be accommodated in ISRO guest houses/ hostels. It added that expenditure towards the travel of students (II AC fare by train from nearest railway station to the reporting centre and back), course material, lodging and boarding etc., during the entire course would be borne by ISRO.
In this regard, he has informed all schools to select three students who have completed 8th standard and currently studying in 9th standard to attend the programme. The concerned school heads are informed to collect the prescribed application forms by sending email to ‘director.se.nagaland@gmail.com.’ It stated that filled in application forms along with required documents should be submitted at the directorate of school education (Room No. 18), Kohima, on or before March 15.
The release further stated that students would be selected on the basis of academic performance in Class VIII (50% weightage), extracurricular activities (30% weightage) and locality of schools (rural schools located in panchayath area 20 % weightage).
