DoNER minister inaugurates Mon international trade fair

Dimapur — Union minister of Development of North East Region (DoNER) and Corporation, BL Verma, inaugurated the 3rd Mon International Trade Fair & Expo 2023 as the guest of honour at Mon town local ground on March 25.

He was accompanied by K Konngam, advisor of Treasuries and Accounts, Art and Culture, government of Nagaland; Ajit Kumar Verma, deputy commissioner of Mon; Anuradha S Chagti, joint secretary; N Simte, under secretary of DoNER; Sekhar Dey, APS; and Alok Rai, PA to union minister.

A DIPR report stated that the people of Mon town and Mon district warmly welcomed the guest of honour and presented him with their traditional attires. It stated that the minister was impressed to see the rich culture of Konyak tribe.

Verma stated that the ministry of DoNER would try to extend maximum possible support for the inclusive development of the remotest place like Mon.

While delivering the welcome address, the deputy commissioner of Mon expressed gratitude to the union minister and his team for sparing their time out for the programme despite their busy schedule. The DC also thanked all the participants, government officials, civil society leaders and all the invitees for their presence.

He informed that the 15-day event would conclude on April 8 with various programmes and performances by renowned artistes and bands.

In a short speech, the president of Konyak Union (KU) has thanked the union minister and his team for attending the programme. He also thanked the district administration led by the deputy commissioner of Mon for the initiative to promote local products, brands along with cultural and traditional development.

He further assured full support to the organisers and wished a grand success.

Other highlights of the inaugural programme included cultural performances by Leangha Village Cultural troupe, Chi Sheko Khong Mon town, Mon Chamber Choir, traditional song by KNSK, Bihu Dance from Assam, cultural dance by KNSK, patriotic song presentation by Atzing Konyak.

It concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by H Berimong, SDO (C) of Mon headquarters.

Verma inaugurates school building

In another programme, BL Verma virtually inaugurated the newly constructed building of Government Higher Secondary School, Tizit, from NIC conference hall in Mon town on March 25.

The project was funded by the North Eastern Council (NEC) under the Ministry of DoNER.

In his short speech, Verma informed about the vision and mission of the Ministry of DoNER, government of India, and stated that special focus is being emphasised on Northeastern region.

He wished that the building would be instrumental in educational development of the Tizit sub-division. He also informed that Tizit has been selected as a backward block and added that all necessary efforts are being taken to ensure for the inclusive development.
