Dimapur, April 9 (EMN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed concern at what it stated on April 9 was a delay in issuing textbooks. The union issued a press release on Tuesday stating its displeasure.

‘The DNSU raised serious concern and dismay over the delay in issuing textbooks despite request from Dimapur education office…to the department of School Education on the 27th of February 2019 regarding shortage of textbooks numbering 64,779,’ the union stated.

Nonetheless, the union expressed hope that the authorities would address the matter with utmost importance “within a period of 10 days from the issue of this press release as the delay in issuing textbooks will jeopardise the future of thousands of students with their mid-term examination approaching in the first week of May…” A further course of action will be initiated after the given deadline, the union declared.

Also, the DNSU said to conduct a tour after the Lok Sabha elections within the union’s jurisdiction. It will strictly check proxy teachers; RTE for the students; land encroachment, mid-day meal scheme, and other pertaining issues, the press release stated.

In other matters, the union has warned shopkeepers to strictly adhere to the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act 2003. They are told not to sell tobacco products to students in uniform, and of below 18 years of age; and within 100 meters radius from educational institutions.
