DNSU sounds alert on looming influx of Bangladeshi nationals
DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed grave concern over the impending influx of Bangladeshi nationals into northeastern India, particularly in the face of escalating civil unrest in that country.
In a press release, the DNSU highlighted that the potential migration poses a significant threat to the demographic and socio-economic fabric of the region, imperilling the cultural heritage and traditional way of life of the indigenous Naga people.

The union maintained that a confluence of factors contributes to this looming crisis, including economic disparities, political instability, environmental degradation, and cultural affinities.
Moreover, the porous borders and inadequate enforcement mechanisms exacerbate the situation, rendering the region vulnerable to uncontrolled migration, it said.
The DNSU also stressed the importance of implementing stringent measures to regulate migration, ensure national security, safeguard indigenous rights, manage resources, and preserve cultural identity.
It went on to insist that the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, a crucial tool in border districts like Dimapur, must be rigorously enforced to mitigate the risks associated with uncontrolled migration.
Pointing out that historical precedents such as the partition of India and the Bangladesh Liberation War serve as stark reminders of the devastating consequences of unregulated migration, the union affirmed that it is resolute in its determination to prevent a repetition of these events, which could irreparably alter the demographic landscape of the Naga homeland.
The union further highlighted several pressing concerns, including demographic upheaval, economic strain and social tensions.
To address these challenges, the DNSU urged the Government of Nagaland to take proactive measures, including strengthening border security, implementing robust immigration controls, enforcing the ILP system, and collaborating with local authorities and community leaders.
“The Union will not tolerate any dereliction of duty or compromise on this critical issue. The DNSU will hold accountable any individual or entity failing to uphold their responsibilities.
“Our homeland is not a haven for illegal immigrants. We will protect our rights, culture, and identity at all costs,” the union asserted.
