DNSU calls for extended school closure in Dimapur amid heatwave
DIMAPUR — Citing extreme heat and humidity, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has urged the state government and educational institutions in and around Dimapur to extend summer holidays.
In a press release on Sunday, the student body noted that the current weather conditions pose health risks to both students and teachers. “In such sizzling temperatures, the classrooms become unbearable even when there is light and the environment isn’t conducive for learning but will have adverse effects on the health of both the teachers and the pupils alike’, it said.
In view of the unprecedented situation, the DNSU stated that it is imperative for the educational institutions to close down for a few days in the interest of the student community.
Furthermore, it has requested the cancellation of student participation in Independence Day parades if the heatwave persists.
The DNSU also stressed the importance of tree planting to combat climate change and improve air quality, and urged the public to prioritise hydration and minimise outdoor activities during this period.
