DNSU, ANCSU demand prosecution of gunmen who shot student
Dimapur, Aug. 5 (EMN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) and the All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) have expressed anger that a student was shot by a gunman.
The frontal students’ groups issued separate press releases on Monday demanding that the authorities prosecute those responsible.
The DNSU expressed vehement denouncement for what it called a ‘barbaric act’ perpetrated on Nikato Yeptho, a BA student of Eastern Christian College, who was shot allegedly by one Poluto Awomi of Suruhuto village in Zunheboto on the night of August 5 around 8:30 pm-9:00 pm. Yeptho was shot in his left leg, the DNSU stated.
The DNSU will not tolerate such kind of inhuman act committed on any student or the society in general, the press release stated. The union has appealed to the law enforcing agencies to ‘immediately book the culprit at the earliest and give him befitting punishment’ in accordance with the law.
The ANCSU also issued a press release to the media on Monday demanding action against the perpetrators. Yeptho was shot twice at point blank range, the union stated.
“Along with the injured student, there were two other students from Eastern Christian College who were on their way home from a friend’s place. The barbaric act against the innocent students is a serious threat to the students’ community, which ANCSU denounce in the highest form,” the press release read.
“The intention behind the attempt of murder during the wee hours is highly questionable by every section of the society. The ANCSU shall not shy away in this matter and shall be vigilant until justice is delivered to the victim.”
The ANCSU has appealed to the government and authorities to book the culprits and advised against granting bail to the culprits under any circumstance.
