Dimapur, June 22 (EMN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) and All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) have expressed “unflinching support” to the movement against influx of ‘illegal immigrants’ spearheaded by the Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) and Naga Students’ Federation (NSF).

A joint press release from the two student groups on Saturday informed that they had a consultative meeting during which “the threat of illegal immigrants taking over the Naga market” was discussed.

They have appealed to the “Naga indigenous inhabitants not to practice benami business transaction with the non locals (which is a punishable offence under the law) particularly within the ambit of Dimapur district.” Such practices, they stated, have “drastically affected” the Naga economy.

“The two unions further appeal the students not to indulge in any immoral activities and that the unions shall be vigilant to prevent such practices which may tarnish the image of the student community,” read their statement.

The DNSU and the ANSCU also stated that they would “retaliate to any authority/groups/individuals whose act may hamper the interest of students and the society.”
