Dimapur, Oct. 15: A newly formed organisation by name, “Dimapur District Village Council Chairman Association” was launched on Mon. Oct. 15 at Chumukedima Town Council Hall in Dimapur. The launching programme was attended by the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Sushil Kumar Patel as the special guest.
Patel in his address stated that a village council chairman has to develop grassroots level. He said, “Development comes under the village chairmen. 70 to 80 percent is under village corporation.
Taking all this into consideration, village chairmen play an important role in effective implementation of any development in the villages which in turn benefits the administration.”
“Community is strong in Nagaland,” Patel said, while mentioning that it was something not common in other parts of the state. He encouraged chairmen of the villages to utilise the strong community-bond to their advantage by helping one another, while sharing suggestions to one another for the welfare and development of the village.
Stating that development of a village depends on the performance of the chairmen, the deputy commissioner urged them to use money judiciously (village funds from central govt. or state govt.) as it was meant for the development of village.
Razouvotuo Chatsu, convenor of the selection committee of DDVCCA, spoke about the objective of forming the DDVCCA, which he said was to coordinate between the local administration and the village bodies in the district.
He mentioned that the association is a non-political body which will work for the betterment of the administration as a whole. Chatsu disclosed that there are 300 villages in Dimapur district.
The president of the DDVCCA, Khekuto Yeptho during his address conveyed assurance to the people that he and his newly inducted team will give their best to uphold the image of the office and maintain peace.
