Seventeen months after the Joint Action Committee (JAC) for Dhobinala-Signal Angami-Thahekhu-Rangapahar Road wrote its memorandum to the then minister for PWD (R&B), followed by several appeals to take up the repair/maintenance works of the said road in the interest of the public, the department of PWD (Road & Bridges) has informed that the works on the Dhobinala-Signal Angami-Thahekhu-Rangapahar road would commence from October 20 next.
An official letter from the office of Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) dated 9th October, addressed to Deputy Commissioner Dimapur and a copy of which was given to the JAC for information and co-operation, stated that the works would commence starting from October 20 and would be executed by the department using a new German technology.
The following villages and colonies - Sema Tilla, Metha Colony, Xuvihe, Lhomithi Village, Signal Colony, Rio Colony, Signal Angami, Naga Gaon, Thahekhu Village, Sangtam Tilla, Y. Zhimo Colony, Kevijau Village and Phom Colony & Sericulture office area have remained badly affected by the depleted condition of the road. Residents of the affected villages and colonies led by JAC and the auto-rickshaw drivers of the said road have also conducted social work a number of times to give facelift to the road.In this regard, the Joint Action Committee Convenor KK Yepthomi and Secretary Neichuvoto Kiso, on behalf of the people of 13 villages and colonies have expressed immense gratitude to the PWD (R&B) department, minister PWD (R&B) Y Vikheho Swu and executive engineer PWD (R&B), Dimapur Division Er Vizotuo Seletsu for paying heed to the plight of the affected residents.
It also thanked Finger Print, a designing and event management group, for organizing an effective fifteen-day media campaign against the pathetic condition of the road. The media campaign was supported by local media houses by way of providing free advertisements. The JAC has also assured the department of full cooperation.
