Dimapur, September 7: A truck driver involved in a hit and run case resulting in the death of a 60 year old man on Signal Road Dimapur Tuesday night around 7.30 pm was arrested by Dimapur Traffic police personnel a few hours after launch of investigation.
According to police, the culprit a truck driver by profession, after the accident had parked the lorry near the spot of the incident and was in hiding standing among the crowd gathered at ‘Tata’ Parking’. After the police launched an investigation, the driver (name withheld) was apprehended around 11 p.m on the night itself after confessing. The driver was not under the influence of alcohol nor was the accident caused by mechanical failure as per the police personnel. The police informed that a case has been registered under Section 279, 304-A and 338 of the IPC against the driver and forwarded to judicial custody. The truck is said to be under the custody of the traffic police. It may be noted that on Tuesday night around 7.30 pm, a truck bearing no. NL 08 D 0796 hit a pedestrian killing him on the spot and fled the scene.
