DIMAPUR — Zunheboto division of District Mental Health Programme (DMHP) organised an awareness programme with the lecturers and students of the District Institute for Education and Training (DIET) on August 18 on the theme "There is no health without mental health."
An update from DIET stated that Atolimi I Khujumi, clinical psychologist at DMHP Zunheboto, spoke on the importance of mental health. She emphasised that health is more than just what one eats, but also encompasses what one thinks, says, and believes.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]She explained that to maintain the well-being of a human, both physical health and mental health should be in a stable condition. She pointed out that one in four people in the world are affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives.
She further explained in detail the possible symptoms of mental illness related to bodily, behaviour, thoughts, and psychological. She also spoke about stigma and myths related to mental health disorders. She pointed out that similar to diabetes, mental health disorders are not the reflection of a weak mind or personal weakness or strength.
According to her, mental health conditions are medical conditions caused by a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors. She stated that creating a community that cares about mental health is the ultimate responsibility of every individual.
She further explained about the tele-mental health assistance and networking across the state and the objectives and service delivered by Tele-MANAS. She encouraged them to reach out to the Tele-MANAS cell.
