DIMAPUR — Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has announced cash award of INR 70,000 to the best performing RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centre, which would be declared on June 5 coinciding with the World Environment Day. The second and third winners would also receive INR 60,000 and INR 50,000 respectively.

This was announced by the DMC administrator, W Manpai Phom, during the inauguration of a temporary RRR centre under Swach Bharat Mission 2.0 campaign at DDSC stadium on Saturday. The temporary RRR centre was inaugurated by Neinuo Kire, president of Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD).

The administrator informed that RRR campaign would be for three weeks beginning from May 20 to June 5. He shared that the idea behind RRR campaign was to open RRR centre on permanent basis in town so that the old goods which could be recycled are refurbished.

He updated that the DMC has come up with a plan to conduct competition among the colonies, where at least one colony from each ward should compulsorily participate in the competition. He informed that the first collection of RRR from the colonies would be collected on May 27, and the second collection on June3.

He suggested the colony leaders to identify a RRR centre in their own ward and send reports accompanied by video recording and pictures. He added that colonies, which fulfill the criteria, would be assessed and best performing award would be given basing on the points they receive.

The items to be collected under the RRR campaign included plastic, old books, footwear, used clothes, toys and newspaper.

The administrator stated that the cash prize money was to encourage the ward to come up with better waste management. He added that they would come up with agenda for different wards on how to improve the collection of waste and segregation them as well as come up with proper structure after visiting them.

He further mentioned that DMC would continue to identify the major drainage systems and try its best to clean up in the city.
