DLSAs observe International Day of Older People

Zunheboto: Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority in collaboration with Nagaland Senior Citizens Forum Zunheboto District Unit (NSCFZDU) and Social Welfare Department Zunheboto observed International Day of Older Persons on the theme “Stepping into the future: Tapping the talents, contributions and participation of older person in society” at Youth Hall on Oct. 1. The chief guests Kitoshe Y.Aye, EE (PHED) Zunheboto and Hovishe Sema, CDPO Zunheboto delivered short speeches. Speaking as the resource person, Panel Lawyer ZDLSA Easter H Yepthomi gave a brief highlight about legal aid and services, various schemes for senior citizens and spoke on the maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens Act 2007. This year the NSCFZDU Senior citizen’s award was given to K. Yevihe Chishi (85 years) and S LuholiZhimo (83 years). They received certificate and gift hampers from NSCFZDU and cash award from Social Welfare Department Zunheboto. Around 80 senior citizens attended the programme. Mokokchung: Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) team comprising of Panel Lawyer MDLSA Sentinaro, Panel Lawyer MDLSA Maongtula and PLVs visited the Old Age Recreational Morung at Ungma village in observation of the International Day of Older People. During an interaction, the team learned that the Recreational Morung was constructed by the village council for the male elderly person above 80-year of age to make them stay connected among themselves. The surviving 15 elders were between of 82-93 year old. They come together twice a week to make baskets and sell for their management. Sentinaro highlighted the rights and benefits of older people and briefed the functioning of MDLSA. She also thanked the senior citizen for sharing their knowledge, experience and wisdom. In another programme, organised by Social Welfare department, Mokokchung, Retainer Lawyer I ImkongJamir highlighted about the rights and benefits for the parents and senior citizens. He appealed the concerned to effectively enforce the rights and availed the benefits. Around 200 senior citizens attended the programme. Wokha: Wokha District Legal Services Authority (WDLSA) organised International Day of Older Person at Longsa Cultural Hall. Panel Lawyer WDLSA Meribemo Lotha spoke on “Welfare Schemes - National Social Assistance Program”, while Panel Lawyer Renbonthung Tsanglao spoke on NALSA Scheme 2016. Panel Lawyer WDLSA M Gracy Ezung a briefly highlighted on WDLSA role and function and spoke on various legal provisions for senior citizen. Longsa village chairman, Zayio Ezung and Renbonthung Tsanglao delivered opening and closing remark respectively. Altogether, 150 senior Citizens attended the program.
