Districts organise rallies to promote nutrition

Dimapur, Sep. 7 (EMN): Rallies promoting the Poshan Maah, a nutrition programme, was conducted in various administrative areas in Nagaland during the month with various advocacy events and educational activities forming part of the promotion.

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates to the media on Saturday informing about programmes.

Sub division officer (SDO, civil) for Wokha Chonpenthung Ezung flagged off the Poshan Maah rally from the deputy commissioner’s office on September 7 in Wokha.

The month of September will be dedicated to promotion of nutrition and health ‘considering the importance of nutrition and health for growth and development of the children,’ the IPR stated. Various activities will be carried out in convergence with departments such as Social Welfare, Medical, School Education and other line departments under the supervision of the district administration, the updates stated.

The activities will include creation of mass awareness in schools to host talk shows and camps with students to identify and eradicate of anaemia and diarrhoea. Students will be educated about the effect of having junk foods. They will be urged to take balanced diets to develop a ‘good and healthy’ life, the IPR stated.

“Pregnant mothers will also be sensitised as to how balance diet has to be maintained and developing the habit of fresh and nutritious food during pregnancy for the well-being of both the mother and the child,” the updates stated.

Further, cleanliness drives will be conducted during the month to promote healthy environment. Likewise, a ‘baby show’ will also be conducted ‘to improve nutrition status among children,’ the IPR stated. Immunisation and “intensification of village health sanitation,” and ‘nutrition day’ will be conducted in all the health centres throughout the villages in the district, the IPR stated.

According to the IPR, a senior supervisor at the Child Development Project Officer’s establishment, Erenbeni Kikon, administered the ‘Poshan pledge’ before flagging off the rally in Wokha.

Workers from the Anganwadi, accredited social health activists, adolescent Girls Club members and teachers attended the flagging off ceremony.

Supplementary nutrition food was also distributed during the programme, the updates stated.

“The month long campaign targets in spreading message to every home the meaning of right nutrition, nutrition food, clean water and right practices of life, so that children will be healthy, strong and capable to face challenges,” the IPR stated.

Zunheboto

A Poshan Maah rally was conducted at Zunheboto on September 7 with the deputy commissioner of the district Peter Lichamo as the special guest of the event. The deputy commissioner flagged off the rally from the Zunheboto government higher secondary school.

Kuda village, Dimapur

A block-level ‘Poshan rally’ was conducted on September 7 at Kuda village in Dimapur. The programme at Kuda was organised by the department of Social Welfare. Anganwadi workers and helpers took part in the rally, the IPR stated.

Niuland, Dimapur
The establishment of the child development project officer at Niuland in Dimapur organised a similar rally at Niuland town on the 7th as part of the National Nutrition Month to educate the public about the importance of nutrition.

The SDO (C) for Niuland Wacy Kent flagged off the rally after administering the Poshan pledge, the updates stated.

Medziphema, Dimapur
A Poshan rally was held also at Medziphema town in Dimapur. The event was organised by the block convergence plan for committees (BCPC) led by the Medziphema extra additional commissioner Sentilong Ozukum and CDPO Tsungrosongla, the IPR stated.

During the rally, Anganwadi workers, members of self help groups and members of nongovernmental organisations, and students carrying placards and banners participated in the rally. The ‘Poshan pledge’ was also read out during the event, the IPR stated.
