Dimapur, Oct. 29 (EMN): Education establishments in the districts of Kiphire, Mon and Mokokchung conducted competition-based science exhibitions as part of an initiative to promote science and technology to aid sustainable development, as explained by its motto.
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates on Tuesday informing about the programmes that were conducted in the districts.
The district education office of Kiphire conducted a science exhibition with the motto ‘science and technology for sustainable development’ on October 29 in Kiphire.
District Education officer Deenabandhu Panda delivered a short speech during the event. He said that the main objective of the exhibition was to promote the innovative ideas of students and to use them in everyday activities.
Panda informed that the winner of the district-level event will be participating in the state-level science exhibition to be conducted in Kohima on November 7. He appreciated teachers and schools for their efforts in helping out the students in their presentations.
The science exhibition had two categories namely single and double presentation. Altogether 19 students participated in the exhibition.
In the ‘single presentation,’ the first position was bagged by Tinutemsula from Loyola hr. sec school while the second prize was won by Manish Kumar from Trinity high school.
In the ‘double presentation’ category, the winning students were Cia Bose and Chumtila A Sangtam from Saramati View Modern school, and Chichem and Akhumse from Loyola hr. sec. school.

Mon
A similar programme was conducted by the education establishment of Mon. Speaking at the programme as its special guest, the additional deputy commissioner of Mon district Hiazu Meru said life ‘became easy all because of science and technology’ but in the process of development, mankind has over-exploited natural resources.
‘If we go on exploiting the natural resources there will be ill effects on health, environment and our existence too,’ he said.
‘Today, all over the world, organisations starting from the United Nations are discussing sustainability. Mankind today has realised that now we have over-exploited the God-given natural resources.’
Meru also spoke about the sustainable development goals of the United Nations which was started in 2015. He spoke about the spheres of property eradication, food security, energy, and health.
In urging the young students to grow in their pursuit of science and the knowledge of it, Meru said science exhibitions will motivate the students to understand and experience scientific values. He appreciated to the teachers and students for their project model and presentations.
In the individual category, Thanglong of St. John’s Hr. Sec. School emerged the winner. Priyance Shandilya of Christ King school, and Yingmei M Konyak of St. Mary’s high school were declared the second and third prize winners, in that order.
In the group category, Nginpong A Konyak and Ponpha of St. John’s Hr. Sec School won the first prize. Mehu and Jahwang of the government Hr. Sec. School for Mon town-D won the second prize. Yeilih Konyak and Angtok Konyak of Edith Douglas School and Alih P Konyak and Keyeang Kheang of St. Joseph’s School won the third prize. Altogether, nine schools competed in the exhibition. Certificates were given to all the participants.
Mokokchung
In Mokokchung, Queen Mary Hr. Sec. School, Senayangba Hr. Sec. School and Mayangnokcha govt. hr. sec. school participated in the science exhibition, the IPR stated. The IPR’s updates did not state the list of winners of the competition.
