District-level Under-14 Sepaktakraw tournament held in Wokha

A match in progress during the district-level Under-14 “Catch them Young Tournament” at Mount Sinai School in Wokha on Saturday.

WOKHA — The district-level Under-14 “Catch them Young Tournament” for Sepaktakraw (regu event) for both boys and girls was organised by the District Sports Office (DSO) in Wokha in collaboration with the Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association on Saturday at Mount Sinai School.

Around 60 students from various schools within Wokha District participated in the tournament.

In the boys’ category, the final match was contested between Mount Carmel and Cistus School, with Mount Carmel emerging victorious. In the girls’ category, the final match took place between Mount Carmel and Mount Sinai School, with Mount Carmel clinching the victory.

The winners of the tournament will represent the district in the upcoming state-level Under-14 Catch Them Young Tournament, scheduled to take place from May 20 to the 22nd at IG Stadium in Kohima.

SDO (Civil) Wokha, Tsidi Hairang, attended the opening ceremony in the afternoon, while Assistant Commandant and Company Commander of 24 Assam Rifles Wokha COB Nand Kishor attended the closing ceremony as the special guest held in the evening.

In his address, Hairang commended the participants for their active participation and encouraged them to wholeheartedly pursue their interests and strive for excellence. He urged them to showcase their talents on the field and strive to bring honour not only to the district but also to the nation in the future.

Kishor motivated the youth to take a keen interest in the field of sports and highlighted the diverse opportunities available in sports. He emphasised that athletes are now being highly compensated, encouraging them to cultivate discipline, strive for excellence, and pursue a sports career with full effort.

Youth Resource and Sports officer and DSO in-Charge, Wokha, Libemo Jami, informed that the District Sports Council, in collaboration with the Wokha District Sepaktakraw Association, will be hosting a Sepaktakraw talent hunt in various schools in and around Wokha District and villages under Wokha.

This event is scheduled to take place by the 2nd week of May. Jami urged interested individuals to participate in it.
