DIMAPUR — The District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) meeting for the registration of births and deaths was held at the office of the deputy commissioner, Tuensang, on Wednesday, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and DLCC Chairperson Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa.

According to a DIPR report, during the meeting, the committee deliberated on the need to conduct awareness programmes for NGOs and voluntary organisations such as village council chairmen, head GBs, pastors, head teachers and tribal unions for the effective implementation of the Civil Registration System and to spread awareness on the benefits of registering births and deaths in the district.

It was also pointed out that proper training should be provided to medical staff on issuing medical certificates for causes of death.

The committee further discussed that since the Civil Registration System has been upgraded to an online platform, rural registration units should be trained for online registration services across all areas to ensure accessibility for all.

It was suggested that advertisements be released in leading newspapers on important occasions such as Children’s Day and World Population Day to promote the issuance of free birth certificates for children aged two years and below.

Additionally, it was deliberated that Shamator and Noklak districts should have their own district portals to ensure the smooth and convenient implementation of the Civil Registration System for public service.
