- DIMAPUR — After years of operating under
deplorable conditions, the morgue at District Hospital Dimapur is finally set
to be replaced.
- According to district health officials, the new morgue at
the hospital is expected to be inaugurated within the next few months.
- Although the construction of the morgue building was
completed in 2024, the necessary equipment arrived only this year, in 2025, and
has now been installed.
- The new morgue comprises six rooms, including a refrigerated
cold storage unit with a capacity of six chambers to preserve dead bodies, and
the building will house rooms for the medical officer and police personnel to
facilitate documentation, along with a designated waiting area for the families
of the deceased.
- It was further informed that power supply to the morgue is
currently being arranged through District Hospital Dimapur, and 24x7 water
connection has also been provided; however, anticipating water shortages during
the dry season, the authorities have recommended the provision of a dedicated
borewell for the mortuary to ensure uninterrupted water supply.
