District gives platform to school talents

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates on Wednesday informing about the Kala Utsav programmes. The district education establishment of Wokha organized the Kala Utsav on October 15 at Pangti Ekhumkho Ki in Wokha during which various competitions on vocal music, instrumental music, folk dance and painting for government high school (GHS) students in Wokha were conducted. Five government high schools from various areas attended the programme, the IPR stated. Assistant Mission Director for Samagra Shiksha State Mission Authority, Chungngam Konyak talked with the students. The officer said the Kala Utsav is a festival of art or talent initiated by the ministry of Human Resources Development aimed at promoting arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talents of school students. Calling the event ‘just a beginning of the programme,’ Konyak said that the main goal of the Kala Utsav is to ‘explore talents and channelise them according to their potentials. It is aimed at creating a platform for the students and to encourage them to pursue formal education ‘taking forward their gifted talents to make them responsible persons in whatever field they choose,’ the IPR explained. With such initiatives the government schools will one day become centre points for learning, Konyak claimed. He informed that the winners of the various competitions will represent the district in the state and then at the national levels. Prizes were given to winners from two categories. In the voice competition, Yanbeni Z Kithanpvui of Englan GHS was adjudged the winner in the girls’ category while Tsenpen Ngullie of Sungro GHS bagged the first prize. Zuthungo O Kikon and Zuchobeni Yanthan, both from Wokha village GHS won the folk dance competition. Nzanthung Kikon and Zuchobeni W Kikon, both from Wokha government higher secondary school of Wokha won in the instrumental music category. In the painting competition, Rhonthungo Ngullie of Sungro GHS and Nzanti R Kithan, school not mentioned in the IPR report, were the winners. Phek In Phek district, the Kala Utsav was conducted at Pfutsero on October 15 with various competitions for students. Deputy Mission Director Timothy Thong gave the keynote address. He said that the Kala Utsav was an initiative of the ministry of Human Resources Development to promote arts in education by giving a platform to the artistic talents of school students who are studying in the secondary stage of education. ‘The work was taken up by the erstwhile programme RMSA and now by the Samagra Shiksha. It recognises the importance of aesthetic and artistic experiences for secondary students. It sensitises students in the elementary level about the rich tribal culture and traditions of the country,’ the IPR stated. Thong said that the ministry had also started ‘Rangotsav,’ which is stated to be a festival aimed at promoting ‘experimental learning and also making learning joyful experience’ by using arts in education including role play competition, band competition, music teachers’ competitions and folk dance competitions. “He said the ultimate goal of this competition is to send the best talents in all the four categories to compete with the students from the rest of India at the national level Kala Utsav,’ the IPR stated in its updates. Longleng The district education mission society in Longleng also conducted a Kala Utsav programme on October 15 in the EBRC hall in Longleng, the IPR informed. “Altogether five government schools under Longleng district participated in the vocal music, instrumental music, dance and painting competition,” the IPR informed. The IPR did not give details about who won the competitions.
