Dimapur, July 10 (EMN): The development boards of Wokha district and Tseminyu sub-division in Kohima district met for the month of July to deliberate on various administrative and development concerns.
The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) of Wokha was conducted on July 10 in the deputy commissioner’s office in Wokha.
The government’s publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR), issued on Wednesday updates about the meeting.
The meeting was presided over by vice chairman of the board Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, the IPR stated.
The new chairperson of the DPDB for Wokha, Mhathung Yanthan, who is the advisor for Horticulture, also attended the meeting, the updates stated.
Addressing officials of the planning board, Yanthan called the board a very important platform that discusses and addresses development issues and activities in the district. He said to take his new assignment as a challenge. He urged the members to cooperate to make the board a cohesive team to fulfil their responsibilities and to meet the aspirations of the people of the district, the IPR stated.
Yanthan said developmental work that is taken up by the board should be completed for the benefit of the district. The chairman asked the board members to attend the board meetings regularly. He suggested periodically visiting all the offices in the district, besides visiting project sites.
The Wokha board discussed various issues during the meeting. The district will be observing 2019 as year of cleanliness with the slogan “cleanliness from within” and “clean Wokha, beautiful Wokha.” The board set aside a cash prize for the ‘cleanest’ colony. There are altogether 27 colonies in Wokha town where 17 colonies had qualified for the award.
Likya colony won the first prize, the IPR stated. The second prize was won jointly by Suren and New colony, while the third prize was bagged by Tsumang B and NST colony as joint winners.
The cash award was funded by the common pool fund of the local area development programme for 2019-20, the IPR stated. The prizes were handed over by the Horticulture advisor to the colony chairmen. The three prizes are a sum of INR 80, 000, INR 60, 000 and INR 50, 000 in that order, the IPR stated.
Officials of the department of Fishery and Water Resources gave reports of their activities during the meeting. Work concerning the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations, on August 15, was also distributed, the IPR stated.
The board also discussed the district administration’s ban that was recently imposed on vehicles of certain weight travelling on the Doyang Bridge. According to the IPR, the board has entrusted the Roads and Bridges department to ‘initiate the proposal’ for construction of a new bridge at the earliest.
The vice chairman of the board, Samoon, also the deputy commissioner of the district, informed the government divisions in the district to stay alert as the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has informed that Nagaland will be experiencing heavy rainfall in the coming week, the IPR added.
Tseminyu
The board of the Tseminyu subdivision, in Kohima district, also met on the 10th. The additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Tseminyu, Nokchasashi Kichu presided over the meeting, the updates stated.
Kichu was stated to have expressed gratitude to various organizations and departments, particularly to village development boards and the Village Council Chairman Association of Tseminyu, for their contribution towards enabling the administration to inaugurate a new building of the ADC’s office at Tseminyu town on June 21, the IPR stated.
The board discussed work concerning the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations to be held on the 15th at Tseminyu. Work was distributed to the departments.
Dr. Gwathonlo Tsela, veterinary assistant surgeon, gave a brief presentation about the activities of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services department, the IPR stated.
